Colorado Map: Salida & Buena Vista Colorado Map |
Where is Chaffee County Colorado? Chaffee County is located in central Colorado a few hours from just about everywhere. Our closest major airports are in Denver and Colorado Springs. There are several well maintained state highways that allow access to our beautiful river valley. Use the maps on this page to help plan the best route.
We have the highest concentration of 14,000 foot peaks in the lower 48 states and there are many recreational opportunities to be found here in central Colorado. That means epic trails, fantastic whitewater and stunning views.
If you're looking for the inside scoop on routes and points of interest from the locals who know them best you came to right place. Our interactive maps allow you to download photos, video, & GPS information to your computer to print, share with traveling companions or load to your own GPS unit or GPS-enabled cell phone.
The Headwaters fun map shows the locations of all the fourteeners and many lakes and trails in Chaffee County where you'll find lots of great outdoor experiences with fewer crowds than other well known areas in Colorado. Plus, the drive here is scenic and relaxing.

If wealth were measured vertically, Chaffee County would be the richest little county in the country. Fifteen of Colorado's 54 highest peaks, those taller than 14,000 feet - aka Fourteeners - reside here in south central Colorado.
The Arkansas River map (courtesy of AllAboutRivers.com) shows in detail the Arkansas River through Chaffee County. What sets Chaffee County apart from everywhere else, is the relationship we have with the Arkansas River. The river draws us to work and play and inspires our art.

If you love a good road trip, Colorado's newest scenic and historic byway is great news. Officially designated just this past November, the Collegiate Peaks Byway takes drivers on a 57-mile tour through the heart of the Upper Arkansas River Valley.
Please Drive Safely: The segment of US 285 between Buena Vista and Salida/Poncha Springs is the Collegiate Peaks Scenic byway and is one of the most beautiful drives in Colorado. It is heavily patroled by law enforcement so be sure to be aware of - and obey - the posted speed limit. The Chaffee County Visitor's Bureau wishes you many happier souvenirs than a speeding ticket. Please drive safely!
